COMBINATION BROWS HEALING
Book a consultation
Semi-permanent. Natural. Beautiful, Once They Heal.
The bolder front. The soft, shaded tail. You love how healed combo brows look in photos. What holds you back is what happens in between. The flaking. The colour change. The “is this normal?” moments.
This page walks you through the combination brows healing process, day by day, so you know what to expect, what to avoid, and when your brows will look like the final photos you saved.
As a four-time certified cosmetic tattoo specialist, I plan your combo brows with their healed result in mind, not just the way they look on day one.
Why Healing Looks Scary, but Isn’t
You might be picturing scabbing, patchy colour, or brows that look too dark. That is what most people search right after a combo brow appointment.

Here is what is actually happening.
Microblading strokes and powder shading create controlled, tiny injuries in the skin. Your body rushes to heal, forms a light crust, then sheds it. Pigment sits in the dermis-layer and shifts as that outer layer lets go.
Combination brows healing can look uneven and even too light for a stretch of time. That sits inside the normal healing arc, not in the “this went wrong” category.
I design, map, and implant your combo brows so the healed combo brows sit in the right place and the right tone once your skin is calm again.
Combination Brows Healing Time at a Glance
Most combo brows healing stages follow the same pattern:
- Surface healing over the first phase
- Flaking and peeling soon after
- Colour “disappearing” phase once flakes fall
- Colour returning and settling in the weeks that follow
- Touch-up (if needed) once the skin is fully calm
When that settling phase is done, you can usually enjoy your combination brows healed enough to feel confident without makeup. The touch-up visit then perfects shape and density so the result lasts.

The Combination Brows Healing Process, Day by Day
Every skin type is different, but this gives you a clear idea of what the combo brows healing process day by day usually feels like.
Fresh: Bold, Sculpted, Defined
Right after your appointment, your brows look crisp, defined, and darker than the final result. Strokes are sharp, shading looks solid.
They feel slightly tight, sometimes a little warm. Not painful, just “present”.
I give you your aftercare for combination brows before I leave, plus a written card you can keep in your bathroom so you do not have to remember every step.
Early Days: Darker and Shiny
As the combo brows healing starts, your brows often look a shade or two darker than when you left the chair. The skin may look a little shiny or feel dry.
This is normal. It is your skin starting to protect the area.
Keep them dry. Follow the combo brows aftercare I gave you. No workouts that make you sweat, no long hot showers over the face, no skincare on the area.
Light Scabbing and Tightness
Soon after, you may notice light combination brows scabbing or tiny flakes forming, especially over the microbladed strokes. The skin can feel tight or a bit itchy.
Do not pick. Do not rub. Let every flake fall away on its own.
I give you a thin healing ointment to dab on, if your skin needs it, and clear instructions on exactly how much to use.
Flaking, Peeling, and the Patchy Stage
This is the combo brows peeling phase that makes people panic. Some areas flake sooner. Some hang on longer. The brows can look patchy, with darker and lighter zones.
This is still on track.
The healing process combination brows go through often looks worse before it looks better. You are just seeing the outer layer let go in pieces.
Stay gentle when you wash your face. Pat around the brows, never over them. Sweat, steam, and makeup on the area are still off-limits.
When your Brows Seem to Disappear
Once most flakes have fallen away, you may feel like the pigment has vanished. The brows can look too light or even “gone” in places.

This is the most worrying part of the combination brows healing process, day by day, and it catches a lot of people off guard.
Pigment sits under a very fresh, new layer of skin. That layer is still a little cloudy. As it settles and clears over time, colour comes back.
If you are unsure whether what you see is normal, you can always check in with me. I would rather talk you through it than have you worry alone.
Colour Returns and Softens
As the combo brows healing stages progress, colour starts to peek back through. The overall look is softer than the first reveal, with a powdery finish and natural-looking strokes.
This is the “settling” window. Your skin is still doing micro-adjustments. It is best to avoid any exfoliants or active skincare on the area until after your touch-up.
Most people feel comfortable without brow makeup once this phase is done. Healed combo brows always look more natural than the fresh set.
Touch-up and Second Healing
Your combo brows touch up healing process is usually quicker and easier than the first round.
At this visit, I refine shape, add density where needed, and correct any small colour shifts. Then you go through a mini version of the same healing stages: a short period of darkness, light flaking, temporary lightness, then settled colour.
Once that second healing completes, your healed combo brows are ready for photos.
What is Normal Vs. When to Reach Out
During combo brows healing, a lot feels strange if you have never had permanent makeup.
Normal during healing process combo brows:
- Feeling tight, dry, or slightly itchy
- Mild combination brows scabbing or flaking
- Colour that looks too dark, then too light
- Patchy-looking brows mid-peel
Reach out to me if you notice:
- Sudden, spreading redness around the brows
- Hot, throbbing pain rather than mild discomfort
- Yellow or green fluid, or thick crusts
- Any symptoms that feel like more than normal healing
I am based in Calgary and I am always happy to look at a quick photo and tell you if what you are seeing is expected in the combination brows healing stages.
Aftercare for Combination Brows
Good combination brows aftercare is what keeps your pigment where I place it and helps your skin heal cleanly.
Here is what I walk you through at your appointment.
Keep Them Dry and Clean
For the first stretch of healing, the goal is dry, not dehydrated.
- No soaking or splashing water directly on the brows
- No swimming, steam rooms, or hot tubs
- Short, warm (not hot) showers with your back to the water
If you get a little water on them, gently pat dry with a clean tissue. Do not rub.
Hands Off the Flakes
Combo brows peeling is part of the combo brows healing process. Picking is what leaves gaps.
Let every flake fall away on its own, even if it looks tempting. It is better to live with a few uneven days than to pull pigment out.
Skip Makeup and Active Skincare
No foundation, brow pencil, powder, or gel on the area while it heals.
Avoid acids, retinoids, scrubs, and any “brightening” or “resurfacing” products near the brows for a good while after your appointment. They can pull colour out or cause patchy fading.
Protect your Pigment From the Sun
Once the combo brows healing process is complete, sun protection becomes one of the most important habits.
SPF around your brows and a hat on bright days help keep the colour richer. I talk you through simple ways to protect your healed combo brows without changing your whole routine.
How I Plan for your Healed Result
Combination brows give you the crisp hair strokes of microblading at the front and the soft fullness of powder shading through the body and tail.

What you see on day one is not what you keep. So I work backwards.
During your mapping, I design your shape to suit your bone structure and natural hair growth. Then I choose pigment depth and tone based on your skin undertone, oil level, and how I know that pigment heals in real skin.
I have had microblading and powder ombré on my own brows many times since 2007. I know how much the colour and shape shift from fresh to healed combo brows because I have watched it on my own face for years.
Every stroke I draw and every pass of shading is placed with your healed combo brows in mind, not just the first selfie you take.
Your Brows by Cher Experience
Even with a focus on healing, the experience itself matters.

I come to you as a fully mobile brow studio in Calgary. Your appointment happens somewhere private, where you can actually relax.
The mapping phase is where we take our time. I measure, sketch, and refine until you love the outline. You see the plan before I touch a needle.
During the treatment, you feel a light scratching during the microblading strokes and a soft buzzing sensation during the shading. Most people describe it as annoying rather than painful.
Before I leave, I talk you through the combination brows day by day healing stages, hand you your aftercare kit, and make sure every question is answered.
You never leave guessing.
Ready When You Are
If you feel clearer about the combo brows healing process and you are ready for brows that stay shaped when everything else comes off, I would love to design them with you.
FAQ: Combination Brows Healing in Calgary
Everything you need to know before, during and after your appointment.
How long do combo brows take to heal?⌄
Combo brows need time for both the surface and the deeper colour to settle. The first phase is when the skin closes over. The second is when the pigment softens and evens out. In Calgary, I like to see you for a touch-up once everything has calmed so we are working on a stable canvas and a true healed combo brows result.
What are the main combo brows healing stages?⌄
The main combination brows healing stages are: bold and dark, light scabbing and flaking, the “too light” phase, then soft, settled colour. You may also notice some combination brows scabbing in the early days and patchiness while flakes fall. After that, colour returns and softens.
Is scabbing normal during combination brows healing?⌄
Light, dry scabbing or flaking is normal during combination brows healing. It is part of how your skin repairs itself. Thick, yellow, or sticky scabs are not typical. If you see anything that worries you, send me a clear photo so I can look and advise you from Calgary. Never pick the scabs.
How should I sleep during the combo brows healing process?⌄
Sleep on your back if you can while your combo brows heal. Try to avoid side-sleeping with your face pressed into the pillow, especially in the first phase of healing. A clean pillowcase and keeping pets away from your sleeping area also help while your brows are in the early healing stages.
Can I work out while my combo brows are healing?⌄
You should avoid heavy workouts or anything that makes you sweat a lot during the early healing window. Sweat can push pigment out and affect the healed combo brows. Light walking is fine. If you are unsure about a specific activity in Calgary, ask me during your appointment.
When can I wet my combo brows?⌄
Keep your combo brows as dry as possible during the first stretch of healing. Quick, careful face washing is fine, but avoid soaking or splashing the brow area directly. After the initial combo brows healing time, you can return to normal cleansing, as long as you are gentle and avoid scrubs on the brows.
What does combination brows aftercare include?⌄
Combination brows aftercare includes keeping the area dry, not picking flakes, avoiding makeup and active skincare on the brows, and protecting the area from sun. I give every client a clear aftercare card and a small ointment, plus instructions on how and when to use it during the healing process.
How long before I see my combination brows healed?⌄
Your combination brows healed result appears once the flaking is over and the new skin has had time to clear. The combo brows touch up healing process then adds another short healing window. After that, you see the true shape and shade I designed for you.
What if my combo brows look too light after peeling?⌄
Brows often look too light after the peeling phase. This is normal. Fresh skin over the pigment makes it look muted for a while. Give your brows time to settle before worrying. If you are in Calgary and unsure, send me a photo and I will tell you if it looks on track.
Do combination brows heal differently on oily skin?⌄
Yes, oily skin can make microblading combo brows healing look a bit softer and more diffused. I adjust my technique and pigment choice for clients with oilier skin so the healed combo brows still look defined. Aftercare is even more important, especially avoiding excess oil and sweat in the first week.
When you are ready to stop guessing if your healing is normal and start planning for brows you trust in every mirror, I am here.
