What Combination Brows Can Do for You
Maybe the front of your brows looks sparse while the tail has an old faded tattoo.

Maybe you like the idea of hair strokes, but your skin is more oily and straight microblading did not hold the way you hoped.
Or you simply want definition that still looks like real hair up close.
Combination brows blend both: microbladed strokes in the front, soft powder shading through the body and tail. The result is a fuller, more defined brow that still reads as natural in person, not just on camera.
On this page you will see combo brows before and after photos from real Brows by Cher clients in Calgary, and I will walk you through what you are actually seeing in each stage.
Why your Brows Look the Way They Do Now
Brows thin and fade over time for a few reasons.
Read moreShow less
Hair density changes with age. The brow tail is usually the first area to disappear. Past waxing or threading can also shift the shape.
If you have had previous brow tattoos or microblading, pigments will often heal cooler or ashy, especially if the wrong colour was used for your undertone.
Combination brows are designed for this exact mix of issues. I use fine strokes to mimic missing hairs where you need them, and soft shading to cover patchiness, blur old work, and bring back shape and structure.
The goal is simple: brows that frame your face, not fight with it.
Combination Brows, Explained Through Results
You do not need a textbook definition. You need to know what you will look like at every stage.
When you search “combo brows before and after” you are really asking three things:
1. How big is the change? 2. How natural does it look in real life? 3. What happens in between?
Before: your Starting Point
In the “before” photos you will often see:
- Gaps at the front or tail
- Uneven arches, one sitting higher than the other
- Old, grey, or reddish brow tattoos that no longer match your hair or skin
- Very light blond or fine brow hair that disappears in photos
During your consultation, I study all of this. I look at how your natural hair grows, how you move your brows when you talk, and how existing pigment sits in your skin.
Immediately After: Bold but Precise
Right after the appointment, combination brows look sharper and darker than they will heal.
Strokes at the front are clear and defined. The shading through the body and tail looks like a soft powder fill.
This early “after” is what you see in most combo brows before and after galleries online. It is beautiful, but it is only one point in the journey.
Healed Results: the True “after”
Once your skin has healed and settled, the colour softens and the strokes blend with your natural hair.
- The front looks like real brow hair, not drawn-on lines
- The tail looks fuller, with a gentle gradient instead of a hard block
- Old pigment is softened, corrected, or hidden within the new design
This healed stage is the “after” that matters most. When you look at any combination brows before and after photo set, always ask if you are seeing fresh or healed work.
On my Calgary combination brows clients, the healed look is what I design for.
What You Will See in your Own Before and After
Every face is different, but there are patterns. Here is what most of my clients notice when they compare their own photos.
Shape and Symmetry
Before: You have a “good brow” and a “problem brow.” One tail stops short, one arch is rounder, or the inner corners sit at different heights.
After: The arches sit as sisters, not distant cousins. I do not force perfect symmetry if your bone structure does not support it. I refine shape so your brows balance your eyes and nose in a way that looks right for your face.
Density and Fullness
Before: Pencil or powder fills the gaps, but wears off by afternoon. Up close, makeup sits on the skin, not within it.
After: Combination brows create density right where you need it most. Strokes in the front and a soft powder through the rest give you the look of a careful makeup fill, without the daily routine.
Colour and Undertone
Before: Old work may look grey, blue, pink, or orange. Or your natural brows are so light that they vanish against your skin.
After: I choose pigments based on your skin undertone, hair colour, and existing pigment. The result is a brow colour that feels like it belongs on your face. Not too warm. Not too cool. Just right.
A Closer Look: Common Starting Points
When people search “combo brows before and after” they often recognise themselves in someone else’s “before.”
Here are some of the most common cases I work with in Calgary.
Sparse, Uneven Brows
Soft, fine hair that never quite fills in. One brow higher than the other. Patches that will not grow back after years of over-shaping.
Combo brows add structure with microbladed strokes and finish the look with shading so your brows finally match the rest of your features.
Faded, Ashy, or Discoloured Tattoos
Old solid tattoos that turned grey or blue. Microblading that healed too cool or too warm. Colour that no longer matches your hair.
My background includes advanced colour correction and camouflage. With combination brows, I can neutralise unwanted tones and layer fresh pigment and shading to refresh the shape without you needing full removal first in many cases.
Oily or Resilient Skin
If your skin is more oily, traditional microblading strokes can blur over time.
Combination brows are often the better choice. The shading component gives you reliable, longer-lasting colour and definition, while strokes in the front keep the result soft and hair-like.
During your consult, I will tell you directly if your skin is better suited to combo brows or another technique.
Your Brows by Cher Experience
Mobile brow services, Calgary. That means I bring the studio to you.
Before your Appointment
We start with a quick phone or video consult.
You send me clear photos of your brows, with and without makeup. If you have had previous brow work, I ask for close-ups in natural light so I can assess your starting point.
I will tell you if combination brows are the right option for you, or if powder ombré or correction and camouflage would serve you better.
On the Day
I arrive at the agreed Calgary location with everything I need: bed, lighting, pigments, numbing, and tools.

We map your brows carefully. This is where the “before” starts to shift.
I measure your features, mark key points, and draw the new shape with pencil so you can see it from every angle. We tweak until it feels like you, only fresher.
Numbing cream keeps you comfortable. Most clients describe the feeling as light scratching, not pain.
Then I create your combination brows: first strokes where needed, then gentle shading to build depth. I work in sections and show you progress as we go.
You will have time to check your new brows in different mirrors and lighting before I pack up.
After your Appointment
You see the immediate “after” in the mirror: bolder, sharper brows that still follow your natural bone structure.

I take your before and after photos so you have a record of your transformation.
You receive clear, written aftercare instructions and a healing timeline, so every stage makes sense: the first dark days, the flaking, the light phase, and the final healed colour.
Your touch-up appointment, if needed, is where we refine. This is when small gaps are filled, colour is adjusted, and your true final “after” is locked in.
The Brows by Cher Difference
I am not new to this.
I am a four-time certified cosmetic tattoo specialist, trained in:
- Microblading and eyebrow feathering with BioTouch Canada
- Fundamental powder ombré with INK x Meraki
- Bloodborne pathogens
- Barbicide COVID-19 sanitation
I have also been on the other side of the bed. I have personally had microblading and powder ombré done many times since 2007.
That matters, because I know exactly how it feels to live through healing, explain brows to friends and coworkers, and look at my own before and after photos with a critical eye.
When I work on your brows in Calgary, I bring that same eye to your face.
I do not follow a template. I decide between microblading, powder, and combination brows based on your skin type, existing pigment, lifestyle, and how you want to feel when you look in the mirror.
Every stroke and every pass of shading has a purpose.

FAQ: Combination Brows Before and After
Everything you need to know before, during and after your appointment.
What is the difference between microblading and combination brows?⌄
Combination brows add soft shading to traditional microblading strokes. Microblading alone uses only hair-like lines, which can look too light or patchy on some skin types. With combo brows, I create strokes at the front for a natural start, then add powdery shading through the middle and tail for more fullness and definition.
How dramatic is the change in combo brows before and after photos?⌄
The change can be quite visible, especially if you start with very sparse or uneven brows. Most clients see a stronger, more defined frame around their eyes, but still recognise themselves. The goal of Brows by Cher in Calgary is an elevated version of your natural brows, not a heavy “stamped on” look.
Will my combination brows look too dark right after?⌄
Yes, they will look darker and more defined immediately after your appointment than they do once healed. This is normal. In the early days, the colour can deepen slightly, then soften as the skin heals. Over time, your brows settle into their true shade, which is noticeably softer than day one.
How long before I see my true “after” result?⌄
You see the full, healed result of your combo brows once your skin has completed its natural healing cycle. That is when any flaking has finished and the colour has returned from the light “ghosting” phase. I like to take healed after photos around this point so you can compare them fairly to your own before pictures.
Can you fix old or bad brows with combination brows?⌄
Often yes, but it depends on how dark and saturated the old pigment is. In Calgary, many of my combination brows before and after cases involve correcting ash, blue, or reddish tones and reshaping older tattoos. If the previous work is very dark or outside the ideal shape, I may recommend removal first and will be honest about that in your consult.
How long do combination brows last?⌄
Combination brows are semi-permanent. They gradually fade over time and will need a colour boost at some point to stay fresh. Skin type, lifestyle, skincare, and sun exposure all play a role. At Brows by Cher, I explain what realistic longevity looks like for your specific skin before you commit.
Will combo brows suit men as well as women?⌄
Yes. Combination brows can be adapted for any face and any gender. For male clients in Calgary, I keep strokes and shading more subtle and follow your natural growth pattern and bone structure. The result is a clean, strong brow that looks like you were simply born with better brows.
What if I am nervous about committing to a big change?⌄
Then we start conservatively. I always design your first session so you can get used to seeing more structure and fullness. At your touch-up, once you have lived with the new shape, we can deepen colour or add more shading if you want. There is no pressure to go bold on day one.
How do I know if combination brows are better for me than powder ombré?⌄
The choice depends on your skin type, existing hair, and desired look. If you like the look of individual hairs at the front and want more shading through the rest, combo brows are often ideal. If your skin is very oily or you prefer a full “makeup brow” day and night, powder ombré alone might be better. I will recommend the option that suits you best in your Calgary consult.
Do you offer mobile combination brows outside Calgary?⌄
Yes, I offer mobile brow services across Calgary and travel out to Canmore, Banff, Bragg Creek and Kananaskis Country with a travel surcharge. We confirm your exact location and any extra cost during your booking call, so you know your full total before you commit.
Your brows are the frame for your face. When you are ready to see your own combination brows before and after, I am ready to design them.
