The Healing Steps That Protect your New Brows

Perfect strokes and soft shading mean nothing if the skin does not heal well. How you care for your brows in the early healing stage shapes the final colour, shape, and softness.

You did the big part by booking the appointment. This part is quieter, but just as important.

Think of this page as your healing map. When in doubt, come back here.

Your Healing Stages

Every skin type is different, but most brows move through similar phases. Here is what you can expect after microblading, powder ombré, combination brows, or correction.

Fresh: Defined, a Little Tender

Right after your appointment, your brows look bold, crisp, and more intense than the final result. The area may feel tight or slightly warm, similar to a mild sunburn.

Your skin is clean and prepped when the appointment ends. You start your aftercare the same day, using the guidance you received.

Darkening: Bolder, Tighter

As pigment settles into the surface layers of skin, colour can deepen. Brows may look sharper and darker than you expected. This is normal.

You might notice light redness around the area. The skin still looks smooth and intact. No picking, rubbing, or scratching.

Book now

Flaking: Itchy, Patchy, “don’t Panic”

This is the stage that makes most people nervous. The skin forms thin flakes or small scabs as it heals.

Brows can look patchy or uneven while old skin sheds and fresh skin appears. It may feel itchy. That itch is healing, not a sign of a problem.

Resist the urge to touch. Let every flake fall off on its own.

Book now

Softening: Lighter, More Natural

Once flaking settles, your brows may suddenly look too light. Some strokes can seem to disappear or look hazy.

They are still there. Fresh skin is sitting over the pigment, muting the colour. Over time, colour softens and becomes more even.

This is the stage where some people worry the treatment “didn’t take.” Give your brows time to finish healing before judging the result.

Settled: True Colour and Shape

Once the skin has fully calmed, your true healed colour shows. Edges soften, shape settles, and your brows look more natural and lived-in.

This is the stage where a touch-up makes sense if it is part of your plan. Any areas that healed lighter can be refined and perfected.

Your brows are still skin, even when they look “done.” Gentle care always wins.

Microblading Aftercare: the First Healing Phase

Follow these steps from the moment you get home (or the moment your mobile appointment in Calgary wraps up). They protect your skin and your new brows.

Keep Them Dry (except for Cleaning)

Avoid soaking your brows in the shower, bath, or while washing your face. Use a damp cloth to cleanse around them instead.

No swimming, steam rooms, saunas, or heavy sweating that runs through the brow area. Too much moisture can soften flakes early and pull pigment out.

If your brows do get splashed, gently pat them dry with a clean tissue. Do not rub.

Cleanse Gently

Clean skin heals better. At your appointment, you receive clear instructions on how to clean your brows at home.

General rule: Use a very small amount of gentle, fragrance-free cleanser on damp cotton. Swipe softly in the direction of hair growth, then pat dry.

Never use makeup remover wipes, exfoliating cleansers, or anything with acids on the brow area.

Keep Products Simple

Less is more during healing. Use only the products you were told are safe around the brow area.

Avoid heavy creams, oils, and active skincare directly over your brows while the skin is fresh and delicate. If you are unsure about a product, leave it off the brows.

Powder, Combination & Correction Brow Aftercare

The core rules stay the same. A few details shift based on the style.

Powder Ombré Brows

Powder brows often have softer, more uniform shading. Flaking can look finer, with less obvious scabbing than microblading strokes.

Colour will look stronger at first, especially at the tail. It softens as the skin heals and the surface calms.

Combination Brows

You have both strokes and shading, so you may see flaking in some areas and softer peeling in others. Treat the whole brow as one healing area: keep it dry, clean gently, and avoid touch.

Never try to “fix” unevenness during healing with makeup. Your touch-up visit is where shape and density are refined.

Brow Correction & Camouflage

Correction work is done on already-tattooed skin. This skin can be more delicate or textured, so it may move through the stages differently.

Expect more visible colour shifts as old pigment and new pigment interact under the skin. The final tone shows only once everything has settled.

If you had correction in Calgary with Brows by Cher, use this guide alongside the written instructions you received at your appointment. Those instructions reflect your specific starting point and skin.

What Not to Do

These are the things that most often damage healed results. Keep them away from your brows while they are healing.

  • No touching, scratching, or picking at scabs or flakes
  • No brow makeup, pencils, powders, or gels on or near the area
  • No facials, peels, microdermabrasion, microneedling, or laser around the brows
  • No long, hot showers where steam hits your face directly
  • No heavy exercise that causes dripping sweat over the brow area
  • No direct sun, tanning beds, or sunbathing over the brows while they settle
  • No creams with retinol, acids, or brightening agents on the brow area

If in doubt, keep it away from your brows. Gentle wins every time.

Client Transformations

From subtle refinement to dramatic change, see what’s possible.

Featuring microblading, powder ombré, combination brows, and eyebrow correction, customized for your style, age, and face shape, delivering natural, lasting results.

Real clients, shared with their permission. Individual results vary with skin type, aftercare and how your brows heal.

Long-term Brow Care

Healed brows are low-maintenance, not no-maintenance. A few habits keep your microblading, powder ombré, or combination brows fresh longer.

Sun Protection

UV light fades pigment over time. Once your brows are fully healed, make sunscreen part of your routine.

Use a high-SPF product around the brows when you are out. Hats help too.

Skincare Boundaries

Keep retinol, exfoliating acids, and brightening serums away from your brows. You can use them on the rest of your face. Just avoid direct overlap.

When booking facials or peels, tell your provider you have permanent brows. Ask them to keep strong treatments away from the brow area.

Touch-ups

Brow tattoos soften and fade as your skin renews. A touch-up keeps shape and colour fresh.

Touch-up timing depends on your skin, lifestyle, and original technique. If you are unsure when to book, send a clear, makeup-free photo in natural light.

You receive an honest recommendation, not a push. Your brows, your pace.

How Mobile Appointments Affect Aftercare

Brows by Cher is fully mobile in Calgary. The studio comes to you: lighting, tools, bed, and full sanitation.

Aftercare still matters just as much. A home or salon setting simply makes it easier to follow.

You can stay comfortable, keep the trip home short, and rest as soon as you get there. We can go through your products together before I leave, so you know exactly what to use.

Before the appointment ends, your aftercare guidance is reviewed step by step. You leave knowing what to do, what to avoid, and when to reach out.

When to Contact a Doctor

If anything about your healing worries you, or you notice possible signs of infection, contact your doctor, walk-in clinic, or local urgent care first. Your health always comes before your brows.

After you have spoken with a medical professional, let Brows by Cher know what they advised. Future touch-ups and brow work can then be planned around their guidance.

For general “is this normal?” questions that are not medical emergencies, clear photos in natural light help show what stage you are in. It is always better to ask than to guess.

Microblading Aftercare FAQ

Everything you need to know before, during and after your appointment.

How long does microblading take to heal?

Healing has stages: the surface closes first, then colour and texture settle underneath. Your touch-up in Calgary is timed so your brows have had space to move through that process.

Can I wash my face after my appointment?

Yes, you can wash your face, just not directly over your brows. Use a damp cloth or cotton pad to clean around them and keep cleanser away from the tattooed skin while it is fresh.

When can I wear makeup again?

Hold off on brow makeup until the skin is smooth, calm, and no longer flaking. You can usually wear foundation and eye makeup earlier, but keep products away from the brow area while it heals.

What if my brows look too dark at first?

Early darkness is normal for microblading, powder ombré, and combination brows. Expect the colour to soften as you move through the darkening and flaking stages. Judge your brows only once everything has settled, not in the first few days.

What if my brows look patchy or too light after peeling?

Patchiness during peeling is expected. If, once your skin has fully settled, some areas still look lighter, that is where a touch-up focuses. Touch-up visits in Calgary with Brows by Cher are designed to refine those details.

Can I work out after my brows are done?

Keep intense, sweaty workouts on pause during the fresh healing window. Light walking is fine, but anything that makes sweat drip through your brows can interfere with pigment settling.

How do I sleep after microblading?

Try to sleep on your back while the skin feels fresh and tender. Avoid pressing your face into the pillow, which can rub or pull at the healing area. If you are a side sleeper, use a clean towel over your pillowcase and keep pressure off your brows as much as you can.

What affects how long my brows last?

Skin type, skincare, sun exposure, and lifestyle all play a part over time. At your consultation and appointment in Calgary, your skin and habits are reviewed so you know what to expect and when a touch-up may be helpful.

When you care for your brows with the same attention that created them, they heal beautifully.
